Nellai slang, Kanyakumari slang, Coimbatore slang, Madurai slang and even Chennai slang has come out in Tamil cinema. But, none has experimented with Tanjore Tamil till now. It’s usually remarked by the scholars that Tanjore slang is the proper form of Tamil among the colloquial speech forms of the language. Nevertheless, even this popular speech form and its special words will be heard in theaters soon.

‘Kalavani’ directed by A. Sargunam will have the characters speak in that slang as the story is made with Tanjore as its backdrop. The film is produced by Nazir under the banner of Sherali Films. ‘Kalavani’ has Vimal opposite newcomer Helen doing the lead role.

Director A.Sargunam was quoted saying, “Tanjore villages have a special slang which is unexplored. ‘Kalavani’ will be an edge-seat fast moving realistic story. It’s about the love between a girl who comes to a nearby village to continue her studies and a local guy. S.S. Kumaran is scoring music.”
